Eugenia Costanza Laurenza interviews Jean Michel Grave, Head of Unit of the European Commission’s DG Taxation and Custom

Mr. Grave heads DG TAXUD’s unit  dealing with customs legislation, currently responsible for, inter alia, the implementation of the Union Customs Code, as well as for the day-to-day management of customs rules. In the interview, Mr. Grave describes the work of his unit, elaborates on the challenges faced with respect to the Union Customs Code and indicates the next steps for the implementation of the new customs framework. He also describes the main features of the Proposal for a Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on the Union legal framework for customs infringements and sanctions, issued by the European Commission in December 2013, and the related concerns expressed by EU Member States. Mr. Grave has recently joined the Editorial Board of the Global Trade and Customs Journal. The interview is published in Volume 9 (2014), Issue 10 of the Global Trade and Customs Journal.
